The dawn of a New Year hold such promise for us all. We're all riding that wave of actualising change, teeming with motivation and ambition. Why is it that such positive forces begin to wane within the first few weeks (and for some unfortunate few, the coming days of a New Year)? How can one contiinue with such determination so that it becomes perpetual and everlasting.
Welcome twenty-eighteen. May you be kind and a blessing to us all

To pursue and constantly chase after dreams takes courage and much strength. It's an arduous process but one with much gratification. But at what point does the journey simply encompass and become too much to bear? To the point where tangible contemplation in abandoning such ambitions begins to feel more realistic and practical.
Is painfully admitting defeat the best possible solution?
Simply dust yourself off and scour within for another unfamiliar (or familiar) purpose?
I've spent the last two weeks simultaneously wrestling with the common cold and some hard truths my mind felt compelled to illuminate. The past few years have been less than fruitful, from failed business ventures to the decline of other pursuits, and thus a lack of drive and ambition. I began contemplating many of the sacrifices and decisions made which inevitably lead me down the dreaded metaphoric rabbit hole into negative territory. However one question cast much doubt and perplexity. And that was if my chosen path was the correct route after all.
From the outside looking in the answer would almost certainly signal a big, fat no. But from the inside a microscopic and insignificant voice was vehemently persuading me that yes it indeed was. And while I acknowledged its wails, a stronger part of me yearned to overlook such fight and simply surrender. For the path ahead of me appeared like a contradistinction and far too obscure. As if the illustration before me seemingly did not match what lay before my eyes, despite all pathways in perfect sync. That was until this quote caught my attention and I finally took heed. A much needed signal from above; a not-so gentle nudge. Dreams exist because something within us is compelled and drawn to such desires. I do not believe that they're simply conjured without justification, an attraction sans warrant. There is a reason for such aspirations, though such things may remain enigmatic. So it is vital to listen to that inner voice, regardless of how bantam it becomes, because you certainly did not come this far, to only come this far.

Now playing: Real slow - Miami Horror
I don't know where time goes or why he decides to become foe as one ages. I truly can not believe that we're already into August. And with that, mere months until the end of the year. Of course for myself another birthday looms with the promise of being yet another disappointing notch upon ones belt. Soon enough Christmas themed paraphernalia will line the shelves of department stores and shops alike. Glittering tinsel and jolly fat men no longer bringing good tidings but moments of foreboding and great trepidation. Why has time itself come to bring the worst in me?
More so, why is it that I no longer revel in anticipation but dread its mere existence? Is it the overwhelming sense of FOMO or something far more sinister perhaps?
These days I can't seem to keep up, or perhaps it's sheer lack of motivation on my part? A sense of overall dejection with my ambitions? I'm full of ideas however, my notebooks and technologic companions are brimming with metaphoric liquid gold and yet I can't seem to find the energy or space to put anything into practice. Like (what I believe to be) a resounding idea for novel, one that feels really, really good. Or the fact that six months on I am still only just completing my travels from the start of the year. One more post to go actually, which is rather embarrassing on my part, something which has become overly prolonged and somewhat unnecessary now. Something which hadn't even occurred to me until my last post centred on the Grand Canyon (familiarise yourself with it here) where I noticed many people commenting about the snow; the majority perplexed by the thought that there was snow lingering about at the Grand Canyon in July.
It's a shame really because I've come to quite enjoy writing and sharing such sojourns.
I also feel like a terrible blogger these days, mostly because I feel as though I'm letting down other amazing bloggers who have been so generously supportive of myself. Their continual patronage, the visits, comments and likes are such a comfort but they also make me note just how noticeably absent I've become on all counts. I've tried to schedule and plan ahead but such undertakings are futile. Is there something in the water because I've noticed a few other creatives sharing the same sentiments. My workload has not increased and yet I feel more exhausted than ever. I was once more than able to multitask and work throughout the day and night, but the last few weeks I've only been able focus on the one project, if that. Two weeks ago I was on a proverbial roll with Instagram, but alas that didn't last long and I'm back to being notoriously absent. The same goes with Snapchat, though in my defence I've hardly done much to document of late.
Am I simply getting older and unable to maintain the kind of schedule I became accustomed to? Or is that my love for blogging perhaps is simply withering away? I like to start the month with a musings or introspection type of post but I feel as though I'm constantly singing the same tune. This is a personal life and style blog so such thoughts are permitted after all. But why no one is yet to hand me the world's smallest violin to play my woes upon is beyond me. And while I am yet to find an antidote to my management headaches I did find this post from The Nerdy Me to be rather helpful in getting me back on track again. Also this graphic from Cocorrina is a charming reminder to "just chill" and let it be for now.
Because that's about as much as I can/am willing do for now.

I've literally sat here since noon trying to conjure up a topic or subject to further discuss or elaborate on but alas, nothing. I can't seem to find the words right now so instead I'll play this a little different today and will ask you, the reader to tell me anything in the comments below. Be it something that makes you angry or sad, or even something that makes you laugh. Perhaps a story to share or a favorite quote, or even an interesting quirk of yours or an irk caused by society. Pray tell, what has been happening with you?

Can you believe it has been several weeks now since our beloved style.com ceased to exist? This has been hard to swallow for me and I must admit I've been a little emotional. Ten years strong they were, which is impressive; a whole decade. I remember how accessible it made fashion to a girl living in the south eastern suburbs, with a penchant for labels that most of her fellow twenty one year old girl squad were oblivious to. How effortless it was for me to view shows and see new collections all sans palaver of scourging through printed pages. It was one of the initial apps I installed on my first ever iPhone, the radical 3G. I spent far too much time perusing that app. They made the impossible possible by giving me an innovative and thrilling way of accessing even more style and all without that incessant need to wait for internet browsers to load. I remember awaiting an order of fish n chips, seated on that uncomfortable emerald green bench on a hot summers day, amusing myself by scrolling through runway shows, utterly delighted to find the new season of Twenty8Twelve (anyone else recall the hype?) uploaded. I was undeniably obsessed with the app, which swiftly removed the reigns from my hallowed Harpers Bazaar magazine.
Most of all I remember the enveloping comfort in visiting this website had for me. Those dull hours of a long work day made slightly more cheerful because of its content. The site itself was a mecca for me. Not only for when I was young and irrevocably fashion fixated but for when I first began this blog and used the site countless times as a reference and for some much need inspiration and direction. It's somber to imagine that sartorial hub no longer as it was but now redirecting to Vogue. All those moments spent trawling through their pages, alas, no more.

NOW PLAYING: Wicked ones - Dorothy
Hello spring, my have you certainly sprung. I'm seated at a makeshift desk, composing this piece a day early as I just wont have time to do so tomorrow. Thing is, it was such a resplendent day and I spent far too much of it enjoying that resplendence. And too much sunshine seems to have fried my brain. I think it's in shock after experiencing so much unadulterated warmth, the kind so unlike that typical Melbourne weather which it is infamous for. I've got tasks piling up, deadlines coming to a close and I just can't get myself motivated enough to tackle it all. It probably doesn't help that I've succumbed to tomfoolery over on Snapchat (you can find me on soniademacedo if you'd like). The kind involving, lip-synching, head banging and a pair of aviators. And I can't believe I am going to say this but, if you're quick you might be able to catch that descent into madness on Snapchat by adding me if you haven't already. Apologies to my family, friends and followers for that cringeworthy show of crazy. I'm not usually like this; openly that is.
My mind is a fog, much like the kind we'd experienced and dealt with for the past several weeks. I just can not find words to express much else nor will my mind conjure up anything remotely elaborate. There's just a loud banging of drums and the screeching of an electric guitar, a cathartic rhythm perpetually on repeat in my mind. It even made a grand appearance in my dreams late last Monday night. This song by Dorothy will probably be on repeat in my mind as we speak, and probably well into the next week too. Since encountering it, I can't seem to cease its sound. Not that I want it to terminate. You see there is something mischievously satisfying about it, like Red Bull gives you wings (apparently), this song gives you one badass alter-ego (truth).

NOW PLAYING: Leather Jacket II - Deerhunter
How is it June? Without warning, a good hunk of 2015 has departed us, just like that. And it's something I don't feel good about; not that one ever really does. I'm irked because this signals a mere six months until another bloody birthday intrudes (umm Universe, I'm still reeling from the last one thank you). How is it that time becomes so fleeting as we age? Simply waning and dissipating unreasonably, far too abrupt in withdrawing its friendship with us. And we can't help but feel terribly hurt by this betrayal, scorned even at times. We become obsessive over it, moan and lament over how little time there inevitably is, especially in ones day. And ain't it the truth though? There are never enough hours in a day.
Then again, what one dwells upon most, becomes their reality no? What you think about, you bring about. So we should focus our energies towards greener pastures, on positivity, but it's hard to do so when life seems intent on reminding you about time. Time, a precious commodity these days and an absolute c***, as is perfection. I'm finding it best to remind myself that what is done, is done and to keep the past in the past. Time travel is not quite within our grasps so it can't be undone anyway. Today however is right here before us and it deserves a little appreciation because tomorrow is not guaranteed. I've decided to make more of an effort with today while simultaneously taking substantial risks, greater than those I embarked on nearly four years ago. I know I'm not the only one who could relate to these words, in fact it was through conversation with friends that we'd noted the error of our ways. In being too involved and absorbed with perfection, with our past and possible future and in being far too immersed with the highlight reel of peers we'd simply forgotten about the present and what was right there before us. Because there is always good in each day, we just have to notice it. Be it a smile from a loved one or stranger, a cuddle from a special furry friend, a Monet-like painted sky or a
Fuck perfect, just go with it.

I don't know about you guys but things of late have taken a dramatic turn down busy road. I've been caught up in a whirlwind of activity and because of this engrossment I've seemingly neglected other areas; like my blog and social media in general. Most of my time was shifted towards my fur baby who I've been nursing after she over exerted herself and pulled a muscle. It's been a tough week or two watching and caring for something so precious, so lively have their fire dimmed slightly. It really takes quite the toll on you. Especially when they can't articulate what exactly hurts, much to the dismay of our vet and myself. But thankfully she is on the mend and back to her crazy-ass self, running amok and lavishing her people with sloppy kisses. And thank God for an extra long Easter weekend. I can (hopefully) finally catch up on postponed work and most importantly, with y'all. Speaking of, what have y'all been doing? It's only been a work or so but I have a sneaking suspicion that I've been missing out on major developments. And of course, Easter is nigh and how that has to come be is beyond me. I mean, wasn't it Christmas just last week? What have you got planned lovers? Time away? Family lunches? Netflix marathons accompanied with bowls of vanilla bean ice cream? Whatever it may be I hope it's a good one. I'll probably enjoy the latter two considering this has finally landed in Australia. How many of you Aussies are uber excited about it? I've had Foxtel for years but am super curious, everyone overseas continually raves about it's awesomeness so I feel compelled to investigate. Now, if I don't get to speak to you sooner (you can blame Netflix for that one), then have a Happy Easter and eat, eat until your heart is content and your belly full of decadent chocolate.
Much love.

NOW PLAYING: Clair de lune - Flight Facilities
Guys, let me begin this post with another round of gratitude for all those lovely birthday well wishes and sweet nothings. You sure know how to make a girl smile, especially when she's not feeling the best. That said I am feeling a tad better; yesterdays epic (and seriously nail biting) Superbowl game has me in much livelier spirits. Patriots baby, whooo! As I've gotten older the need for arm parties and the extreme collecting and hoarding of high street trend items has become more and more unnecessary for me. And with that a new love and appreciation for simple basics has blossomed. As individual pieces, like a chameleon they have the ability to transform and harmonise. The the ultimate team players.
When it comes to basics I tend to agree with the image above and for me there are certain key pieces that I believe one must procure. A well-fitted pair of denims, a simple tee and a tough biker jacket (I know some may not consider a biker as "basic" but I do and I am referring to the general structure of said jacket here). For me, these are three pieces I would cease to exist without. And I'm not being melodramatic. Because they're especially perfect for those mornings were you find yourself crawling out of the comforts of bed, tearing through your wardrobe like some feral supernatural being, causing havoc and chaos all in the hopes of finding something decent to wear. In having these three pieces at hand you'll save yourself from unnecessary drama and avoid moments like these. By placing all three together you have one drool worthy ensemble at your command.
What do you guys think? Do you agree? Have any of you noticed a new found respect or gravitation towards the humble basics with age?

Happy belated New Year greetings lovers. I actually hadn't anticipated returning quite so soon as I wanted to begin the new blogging year with an exciting announcement of changes to come and of course a brand-spanking new layout. But I've just missed y'all terribly so I decided to throw caution to the wind and just begin; plans be damned! I sincerely hope you guys had the most wonderful Christmas and holiday season. What did and have you all been up to since then? I haven't been doing much myself, just making plans and dying from the humidity and heat an Australian summer brings. Speaking of plans they mostly relate to this blog in general and it's overall direction. Aside from a new blog layout I've been looking into the content aspect and thinking of adding more solid topics to the list. Things that relate more to lifestyle than fashion such as more food. Not just the sweet kind but also serving some savoury and health ideas. I've also been itching to include interviews and collaborations with fellow blog friends into the mix. There's quite a list actually but I don't want to revel everything just yet and ruin the grand surprise! Currently I'm in the excruciating process of working out some kinks but worst still deciding on (one kind of) typography, so once I get my butt into gear, put on my big girl panties and make some actual decisions then shit will go live. Hopefully by the months end.

NOW PLAYING: Prayer in C - Robin Schultz & Lilly Wood
I don't think I've been quite so enamoured with words before encountering this quote. The ocean certainly has that je ne sais quoi and when you think about it, so do we. I can't help but find similarities to humanity in these words too, because there really is something beautiful about us all. We posses powers and abilities to create and be and this world offers us infinite possibilities to do so. In our essence we seek and crave serenity and peace; both within ourselves and in the world around us. Deep down we are all magnificent beings in our own right. We are individually unique and special; worthy of all good.
But we're also a terribly irritable bunch. And at times incredibly hateful, not only to one another but most alarmingly to the planet we populate. And this has been plaguing my mind lately. Because Planet Earth has been incredibly patient with our nonsense. And like poking a bear, eventually luck runs dry and it retaliates uncontrollably. So now more than ever we need to cease all ignorance and begin tending to her needs. Because if we don't then who will? (Obama said it best at the recent G20 summit.) Do we really want to be forever cemented in history as that bunch of people who did nothing, who changed not a damn thing? A generation seemingly so consumed in self indulgence and without remorse for future generations? Selfish and lackadaisical, overlooking all responsibility? Because that is exactly how we will be remembered. Not for the good and great but for allowing our climate to continually disintegrate further and dangerously beyond repair.

Oh, hello October, where the hell did you come from? Honestly I feel like I've been having one of those
Creative funks and blocks in theory are expected to relent sporadically, yet mine seem overtly comfortable by my side. How I wish they'd depart and free me so I could continue making magic. Urgh when does it end? So much for making August my bitch. How do you break free of those all consuming ruts? And anyone else feel like 2014 is panning out to be one of those years?
I suppose there is still adequate time for something fabulous to manifest itself; not all hope is lost just yet.

I was perusing the pages of Inside Out magazine recently when a singular line caught my immediate attention.
It really got me thinking. All those plans and ideas that I'd spent many a late night tirelessly penning have been cast aside, abandoned and inert while awaiting my summons. And I've been lingering for what exactly? Now is the time to seize the moment. Because the thing is if you don't do it now then when will you? So with that apologies in advance as I attempt to keep to my word and begin the process of making some huge changes around here. And I'm not just hinting at layouts and design, (yes, yawn again) I'm talking about content and expanding its reaches. Please be patient with me. I'll continue to entertain you faithfully and endeavour to visit your blogs sporadically. Much like I have been these past few weeks anyway. I'll still be around on other social media sites like Instagram: @soniademacedo and Facebook so follow along (if you haven't already) to keep up with my madness. I'm curious though, after reading this yourself are there any plans you made that are still idle or forgotten? Are you going to make August your b*** and get s*** done?

Yet another month ended and another month of a disoriented not-so-cold-winter over here. It is also yet another month of serendipitous European daydreaming for me. You know, there is just something utterly intoxicating about this time of year and in particular, living vicariously through the adventures of others, especially via our good pal Instagram. The way those filters make every scene appear flawless! Water is always immaculately cerulean like; mirroring the heavens above, protectively camouflaging those reflected lone clouds within it's waves like an obsessive mother hen. Illustrious concrete jungles glisten and gleam under a sizzling hot sun like no other and those notorious food snaps never fail to make ones mouth water. Though that can actually be quite the dilemma if you're out and about in a public space. I mean, no one wants to see a grown-ass woman drooling onto her crisp white shirt over someones rainbow gelato!
That said, it is also entirely different in viewing those impressive snaps within the comfort of ones home, snug as a bug beside the heater whilst a pitiful spray of rain coats the window pane, to actually experiencing that unbearable heat. For which I almost always fail to remember. So whilst you are all being fabulous sun bunnies, I'll continue to observe from the sidelines (and in a totally non-creeper way), and dream of luscious pastel skies, denim cut-offs and Birkenstock situations. And all while attempting not to bore you with all my winter woes, which have nothing to do with the weather itself. Partly, anyway.

It's officially winter for my side of the world and for the top half, that means it's obviously summer. Henceforth an influx of vacation sojourns, bronzed bare legs and beach bum days are set to invade feeds everywhere. Now I've said this before and your darn right I'll definitely mention it again, but I firmly believe I was born in the wrong hemisphere. Even though I have a preference for the cold, there is just something about this time of year that leaves my nomad soul yearning for a slightly warmer climate. And maybe its that surge of Instagram summertime decadency that leaves my heart aflutter. Or perhaps it's just heeding to and reading about the adventures of fellow peers who've decided to trek on over to that other side of the globe for a few blissful weeks that changes my thought preferences.
I've also noticed how my inclination for certain types of music dramatically changes along with the passing seasons. Rather than finding solace in mellow tunes and classical notes while seated beside an open fire during the colder part of the year, I've found that I tend to sway more towards dance rhythms and electric beats. You know, the kind of tunes you'd find yourself absorbing while at summer festivals, spontaneous roadtrips and such. The same goes for the warmer ones, I sway towards chill-out tunes. Those sluggish and soulful kinds too. Weird I know, but further proof to my theory that I belong on the top half of planet Earth. But anyway, I'm curious, do any of you notice the same tendencies and changes with the coming seasons? Because I know I'm not alone in this eccentricity.

NOW PLAYING: Midnight dawn - Mt Warning
It's getting cooler down under and I must admit I'm a pretty happy chappy right now. Layering up, chasing online sales and hunting down coveted thick and chunky knits to wriggle into. The heavens opening up with rain, a softness that trickles and sprinkles outside on the window panes. Turning up the heating and finding that one spot I can crawl into and unwind with my trusty MacBook or treasured novel. And all with my loyal puppy by my side at that, copious puppy cuddles I'll get smothered with, wanted or unwanted.
But then there's also all these lovely spring and summer edits other bloggers are posting about. Sharing their upcoming travel itineraries and plans for the summer, filling my mind with dreams of the blue Mediterranean Sea, cobblestone paved paths and grand Moorish architecture and romance. And as much as I live (and I mean live) for the cold and get excited for this time of year, I can't help but feel slightly envious of the other half of this globe who will be moving into warmer months. I'm conflicted and very much a hypocrite. Complaining about the woes of a hot Australian summer only to fall smitten with a longing for the mild European sun. I know, I'm a total nut job and perhaps it's just a simple case of being born on the wrong side of this planet so don't feel too sorry for me kids. It happens every year, I go through the same motions and feelings and I'll get over it soon enough. And who knows, maybe I'll even get to indulge in this European fantasy of mine, sometime in the next few weeks.

NOW PLAYING: High - Peking Duk
Hey y'all! I am back, well sort of. Creative block is still pretty much in full swing still and I also haven't been feeling the very best, so I am going to try my hardest to push through all this indecorousness and keep this blog updated, so please bear with me for now. I also must confess, I've been such an deplorable blog buddy to you guys and have been severely out of the loop at that, but I do have every intention of rectifying this immediately and plan on catching up with all your sartorial and travel adventures of late. So while I've been frustratingly down and out these past few weeks I've had a little time to contemplate some possible changes and in particular the blog layout itself. Yes you read right and I know, again. But what do you guys honestly think? Yay or nay? I guess you could lay blame on the lovely grey skies, wet concrete and thick, snugly sweaters I am indulging in right now as the weather starts to cool right down. Then again, maybe it's from being confined and cooped up at home trying to recuperate that is making me slightly ga-ga.
I don't know, I am just feeling like a change of some sort is in order, perhaps to motivate me or something. You know, to get me out of this God awful funk.

NOW PLAYING: Doesn't matter - Kasper Bjork [Trentemoller remix]
Happy February loves! Damn time sure does fly. And damn if I had a dollar for every time I uttered those words, I'd have a mega opulent Brownstone in Manhattan or something. Actually change that to my own, personal island with plenty of money still in the bank for a private jet. Ahhh, yes a girl can dream no?! I'll have to keep this a short one since I'm trying to watch the Superbowl and blog at the same time as listening to my rowdy, beer laden mates cheer at the (so far) many incredible touchdowns by the Seahawks. Yeah, I'm rooting for Seattle considering stupid Denver kicked out my beloved Patriots, so with that I do hope they get annihilated!
And so far, so good.

Happy New Year lovers. 2014 is well and truly here ain't she. Start of a new year and all but don't be expecting none of that new year new me nonsense from my end. I am only going to promise y'all and myself to write more, smile more, give more, experience more and travel more. Simples. By the way did you know January is my birthday month? And here's a little bit of trivia for ya, this month (being January, in case you'd plain forgotten already) has its days lined up exactly as it were back in 1986, which also happens to be my birth year, which means I was actually born on a Thursday! I've always wanted to know what day I was born though I always forget to simply ask my mother. Problem, finally solved! I also think this is pretty cool, kind of like a positive omen from the Universe him/herself of sorts, a promise that this year is going to be way awesome.
Here's hoping it truly is.
For all of us.
