THE SCENE
You find yourself in one hell of a location. A towering apartment block with illustrious bay views. Dressed to the nines in Zaful and all the while surrounded by great friends, loved ones and an expansive cocktail and champagne menu. The room is appointed in a frivolous ode to the New Year while the floor peppered with lustrous twinkles of confetti. You've spent a good portion of the night shimmying away those negative memories that came with the past year. Enthusiastically anticipating the clock to strike midnight. There are few items that consistently remain as iconic as a strappy black dress. Pieces such as a classic white shirt and a pair of denim jeans for example are in the same league as a womens black dress. A personal paradigm of late, one I've continuously seen myself favouring more and more of. Regardless of hue, blue denim bottoms and a relaxed fit type shirt have become my exclusive signature staple.
But when it comes to a white shirt, acquiring "the one" can prove to be quite challenging for me. Inconsistent sizing plays a big part, perfect in one section, far too tight in another. Or perhaps my issues lie within my broad shoulders, feeling as though many styles seem to enhance this self-perceived flaw rather than detract. It is a piece I find myself either in anticipation (which is more on the rare side) or in sheer dread when window slash online shopping as such difficulties immediately come to mind.
That said the highlight towards pyjama type shirts has been a godsend for me. A most flattering and effortless design; one that no longer leaves me filled with trepidation over such purchases. Feathery light and opaque enough for a faint glimpse of darker undergarments this ASOS shirt has metaphorically swooped me off my feet. Much like the stages of a newly paired romantic coupling I've been searching for ways for us to remain coupled. Much like these baby blue jeans from Rosegal, a modern take on a classic with overly slashed knees, have become firm favourites. A pair I regretfully forgot to pack on my latest sojourn overseas to Portugal (more to come) and a pair I would have perpetually lived in during those two weeks abroad thanks to blissfully mild temperatures.

my new Stan Smith's and Gucci Ace's. It's a battle of the squeaky clean white's right now. I've been coveting those studded bad boys for some time now and am definitely smitten. Currently I'm in the throes on which I'd like to accompany me overseas. Studded beauties (that no doubt will sound off metal detectors) or minimalist perfection. But more importantly who in their right mind purchases two new pairs of white sneakers within the spate of a few days?
Men Without Women by Haruki Mirakami. Despite a growing pile of novels awaiting my attention, I recently acquired this title and dove right in. Something about the opulent cover art (I'm a sucker for hardcover's and illustration) called for my attention. It's been a joy thus far with the short story format making this book effortless to devour. 
my upcoming trip to Portugal. Upcoming as in two days away. Despite countless promises to properly organise myself, I've yet again failed disastrously on all fronts. I spent a good part of my Sunday in a mad rush to pack my suitcase (a task which unbelievably remains to be completed) leaving me carefree for the following days tanning routine. Arrogant and accidental bronzer markings on white clothing; spare me.
to The Neighbourhood. There's something truly comforting and solacing when listening to this band while the rain patters away gingerly at your window.
Orange is the New Black. Truthfully I jumped on the OITNB band-wagon belatedly (as in season 3 late) but have appreciated this show nonetheless. I must admit I was rather obsessed with this season and attempted to lag out each episode for as long as I possibly could. I just did not want it to end. And what a finale. How is a girl supposed to hang on for another year?
the Buffet serum from The Ordinary and their Magnesium Ascorbyl Phospate cream. I was also using their Vitamin C Suspension moisturiser but the grainy consistency is really objectionable and very much undesirable. At the beginning it did not bother me as much but after some time that texture just became overly repelling. Also the faint scent of artificial orange juice makes me feel a little nauseous. But I've been exceedingly content with the brightening and moisturizing results from the first two. Especially considering the humble price point. I am completely converted. Sorry REN.
with my new toy, the Canon 5D Mark IV. I spent so much energy going back and forth to the store (much to a certain salesman's annoyance I am sure) trying to figure out which model to invest in. Having been without a DSLR for many years now and moving straight to a 5D sounds ludicrous to some (again, here's looking at you sales dude) but in terms of money and features I felt like it was a solid investment considering how technically "dated" the 6D and 7D lines are. Plus the idea of wifi compatibility and ease was something I strongly preferred. And knowing my luck as soon as I dropped cash on another other model I know a newer one will be released. Like that time I purchased my mirrorless M3 when a newer model, the M5 was just about to be released. Regardless I'm enjoying carousing with this little beast and can not wait to see what it will produce once we become more familiar with one another.

Inspired by a recent post in Farfetch's Style Guide the sneaker trend is nothing new and dare I say revolutionary (say for the introduction of excessive embellishment). But it is a trend here to stay and I for one am overly content with its presence. Aside from the obvious comfort factors their design and essence remain one that is hard to perpetuate. That air of effortless cool, of model-off-duty vibes and nonchalance. A former Paris native perhaps? Debatable? Hell no. Its natural attitude and grace akin to those polished Parisienne's most style mavens aspire to replicate.

As I've gotten older I find my enthusiasm and excitement for hosting events something that steadily increases with fervor. Be it in a carefully selected venue or in the comfort of my own home, there is something utterly exhilarating about the entire process and experience.
So how does one host the ultimate dinner party?
Well I generally start with a rule of thumb; treat your guests as you yourself wish to be treated. I find that to be pivotal as well as taking the time to properly organise yourself. Prepare in advance and do your research. The internet has countless sources for inspiration, both in terms of decor and food; my favourite being Pinterest. And while cascading ceiling fauna and entire walls covered in florals is seemingly out of budget there are other aspects to focus on which inevitably garner more important attention.
Invite your guests. Take the time and effort to properly request their attendance. Sending a group text is obviously less time consuming but it also lacks originality and personalisation. In an age were we've lost the art of handwritten letters and notes such things really speak volumes. Get creative and try online services that have pre-made invitations like Paperless Print. With copious design selections and options for either printed versions or online there's no excuse in being apathetic.
Organise your ensemble. Because the last thing one needs to preoccupy themselves with on the night is what to wear.
Plan your theme. Will it be a winter wonderland in tones of grey and white, lavished with baby's breath or something more monochrome and minimal. An eclectic mix of crockery and cushions as seating for a more bohemian feel perhaps? Set the tone with fanciful decor and an Instagrammable table setting. Everyone (yourself included) appreciates the visual appeal of such things.
Arrange the menu accordingly. Think out your menu and take into consideration the dietary requirements and dislikes of those invited. What may feel like an inconvenience will be recognized and greatly appreciated by your guest. As someone who does not eat seafood I can't tell you enough how disheartening it is to arrive to an event and find fairly limited options. Also ensure you have one or two plates for your guests to pick at prior to the actual meal as they mingle about. Same goes for drinks, alcoholic and not providing more than is adequate is never a bad thing.
Make it personal with personalised name cards or a little gift for each guest. Comical photo booth masks work a treat around the table and make for great conversation starters or for breaking up awkward silences.

As the anticipation towards my upcoming sojourn to the West coast of Europe intensifies, thoughts (more like obsessive online window shopping) of what to pack and wear (umm hello obnoxious forty plus degree weather) become more and more frenzied as my departure date looms.
So how does one decipher what is relevant for a two week getaway?
Well. one sticks to the basics and the essentials. Pieces such as swimwear for starters and I for one am drawn towards channeling Baywatch vibes in a little red number. Of course there is nothing more essential than a maxi dress or a strappy black dress; effortless and the ultimate chameleon. Perfect for sightseeing down cobblestone lanes, ice cream moments by the ocean or late night frolics in the balmy open air.

While my seemingly perpetual fondness for black denim pieces will always reign supreme, I do feel a slight compulsion and a need to introduce and showcase other hues for down below on this blog. Despite being a Melbourne girl through and through, in daily life I'm not persistently residing in my old faithful ASOS black denims either; irregardless of the slightly enforced obsidian dress code required for my work as a merchandiser. Believe it or not I truly do possess a sartorial repertoire of more than classic black bottoms like one or two blue green dresses. Residing in my closet, a vast collection of blues lay within reach, all interweaving with tones of grey, severed by a singular partition of white.
And while I felt impelled to prove such frivolities, there was also a slight yearning to coerce myself out of that convenient comfort zone. To simply expose myself and flaunt such notes, to part ways with the commonplace. And what better way than to do so with tones of navy, paired simply with a matching plaid shirt. A fundamental marriage; a humble classic. And though I felt more inclined to match such a piece with my beloved black denims, I strayed and remained firm on such resolves. The outcome a celebration of the exemplary. Blue denim jeans, the model icon. A plaid shirt, always humble but effortlessly chic. Chelsea boots, London cool and one not to be messed with. And of course Ray Ban aviators, transcendent and the original bad boy.
On a side note can I just say how I was truly touched by your wonderfully supportive comments from my last musings post. Some even had me in tears (here's looking at you Emily from Coat and Coffee) of joy. Some journey's are arduous but rewarding and there's nothing more fulfilling and ultimately jubilant than pursing a life doing what you love most. And I think at the heart of this, I had somewhat forgotten such things and instead dwelled on hardships rather than rewards. I know I may not say it nearly as enough nor am I actively as supportive on your blogs and social media these days as I once was but know this, I am eternally grateful to you all. Moving upwards and onwards, always.

A chaotic weave of blonde and coalescing brunette strands courtesy of irascible winds and emerald green sateen glistening mutely amongst the encroaching storm clouds. Stardust, not quite, but a firm yearning for the celestial. One venerated and aggrandised with the accompaniment of elysian themed pieces, from heels to earrings; highly favoured for obvious reasons. Of course such winsomeness was something we failed to capture with thanks to Mother Nature. As was the sheer lawlessness surrounding my locks.

It's also pure coincidence that I don green simultaneously following St Patricks Day a mere few days prior. Emerald and deep green tones are poised to make a grand debut sartorially and I for one have been discreetly gathering pieces and finds here and there, adding to an over expanding and ever so frivolous collection. The most recent acquisition this shirt from Zaful. And yet another resplendent and unique find from this online store. A glorious deep jewel hue in a satin fabric deliciously playing homage to the nineties yet extra playful with fanciful drop shoulders and extreme length sleeves. Somewhat reminiscent of the humble pyjama shirt, sans the standard piping fare, but equally as captivating and dare I say it wonderfully comforting.
Another point of note are these optical glasses from Glasseslit. If you recall I showcased a different style on a previous post. These happen to be my favourite pair of the two. Translucent frames paired with transcendent animalistic tortoise shell. A daring combination; subtle yet not absolutely, striking, very much so.
