THE SCENE
You find yourself in one hell of a location. A towering apartment block with illustrious bay views. Dressed to the nines in Zaful and all the while surrounded by great friends, loved ones and an expansive cocktail and champagne menu. The room is appointed in a frivolous ode to the New Year while the floor peppered with lustrous twinkles of confetti. You've spent a good portion of the night shimmying away those negative memories that came with the past year. Enthusiastically anticipating the clock to strike midnight. And eagerly awaiting the Sydney Harbour to illuminate the skyline with its distinguished kaleidoscope display of sparklers.
Happy New Year.
Yes it's time to bid adieu to the past and say hello to a brand spanking New Year. New Years Eve is truly such a magical night. It is one teeming with kindred benevolence and immense hope. That prospect of new beginnings. The new found clarity on ones desires. There's not another night quite like NYE. And with such a prominent night ones choice of outfit needs to be as equally memorable. Leave those sequins for festive cheer and bring out your inner femme with a bit of bandage à la nineties Versace. Channel icons like Elizabeth Hurley and embrace your curves and femininity with velvet and floral. And with touches of on trend raffia and accoutrements reminiscent of Madonna's wild child days, will leave you with your best foot forward into a stylish and most wonderful New Year.

THE SCENE
It's the most wonderful time of the year, or so they say. Christmas day is a day to be spent with loved ones; be it family or friends. All gathered under the same roof, in eager anticipation for the merriment awaiting at the dining table. Such a feast will be spread before thee, one oh so reminiscent of those placed before the gluttonous King Henry VIII, sans the medieval fanfare. Your people all amassed at the table, in fits of belly-busting laughter while devouring sumptuous food and bottles of vino. Roaring laughter and eating until the button on your denims burst. That is the ideal Christmas lunch.
When one contemplates Christmas and fashion the mind automatically directs you to the colours red and green. And it is easy to understand why we gravitate towards these two colours considering how traditionally steeped in the festive holiday they are. I for one despise wearing and pairing these two colours year round, especially during this time of year for a number of reasons. Firstly, it reminds me of my primary school uniform of green polos and daggy red shorts. Secondly it's overly, seemingly festive.
This time of year I find that most fashionistas curate ensembles solely based on these colours. Some combine the two and others don it head to toe. There's no rule to say you can't nor is there an unwritten faux-pas but for me I prefer to keep the traditional colours at bay, revealing only just a hint of festivity on say my lips. The thing is there are more colours in the colour spectrum one can indulge in this time of year. And I find metallics tend to be the most fun. I love the idea of wearing something sparkly like these pants or this skirt. Glittery enough to remain merry whilst also being something that can be utilised year round.

THE SCENE: it's Fri-yay and somehow you've managed to rally your girl squad together for a night of cocktail shenanigans. You've been looking forward to this all week; counting down the days, hours and minutes (much to the dismay of your Facebook friends). It's just been one of those weeks, stressful, eventful and a darn right nuance at best. You're overly eager to let that hair down, step out in those brand, spanking new Plexi heels and paint the town as red as your poppy hued lipstick.
Sadly, I can not remember the last time I revelled with my squad. The thing is when you get to my age (did I really just type that?) you find your crew has grown, yet concurrently shrunken. You all walk in different directions and thus encounter prominent humans along the way. You find coupling up gets serious with traveling, relocating, marriage proposals and then (maybe) babies, though not in the order, is on the cards. And as years elapse you find yourself endorsing nights curled up on a couch, accompanied by Chinese and vino over Jägerbomb's and strobe lights. Life becomes exceedingly scheduled, not just with others but for yourself also.
So when an opportunity for boisterousness presents itself you seize it and compromise because it's a true rarity these days. Planning such nights are thrilling, yet exhausting at the same time in attempting to accommodate every individuals needs and calendars. At least this has been my experience thus far. For me a girls night should be all things feminine and dainty, naughty and nice. One should be dressed to the nines, dolled up and standing on impractical heels. There are times when sweats and sneakers will be called for but not this night. No. You want your Sunday best, dressed to impress no one but yourself. All black, hints of gold and a tulle tutu; oh hell yes.

THE SCENE: it's your birthday, holla! You're in New York to celebrate, wanting a not-so quiet girls night out and you're more than ready to paint the town red. You'll take a town car downtown to an uber cool Moroccan restaurant where you'll indulge in your favorite North African delicacies. Following that, (copious) drinksies at a rooftop bar two blocks south. The men will be dapper, the chandeliers decadently lavish and twinkling under the night sky. There will be fresh blooms as far as the eye can see and most importantly the cocktails will be plentiful and continuously overflowing.
Yes it's my birthday today and that means I have officially moved into that oh-so dreaded late twenties age bracket. But between you, me and the world as a whole I will forever be 26 for as long as I can get away with it. And if my wonderful cousin Paul is reading this, don't you go blurting otherwise dammit! I'll keep your secret if you keep mine buddy. I want to send colossal thank you's to all those lovely people who took the time to actually read my previous post Meloncholia. I know it was a long one and I probably sounded like a massive Debbie-Downer. I can't tell you how truly appreciative I am for all those sweet messages and reminders. You guys helped me put things into perspective and boy am I indebted to you. Not just for reading those rambles but for the words of encouragement. So much love for you guys right now.
