It's the most wonderful time of the year, or so they say. Christmas day is a day to be spent with loved ones; be it family or friends. All gathered under the same roof, in eager anticipation for the merriment awaiting at the dining table. Such a feast will be spread before thee, one oh so reminiscent of those placed before the gluttonous King Henry VIII, sans the medieval fanfare. Your people all amassed at the table, in fits of belly-busting laughter while devouring sumptuous food and bottles of vino. Roaring laughter and eating until the button on your denims burst. That is the ideal Christmas lunch.
When one contemplates Christmas and fashion the mind automatically directs you to the colours red and green. And it is easy to understand why we gravitate towards these two colours considering how traditionally steeped in the festive holiday they are. I for one despise wearing and pairing these two colours year round, especially during this time of year for a number of reasons. Firstly, it reminds me of my primary school uniform of green polos and daggy red shorts. Secondly it's overly, seemingly festive.
This time of year I find that most fashionistas curate ensembles solely based on these colours. Some combine the two and others don it head to toe. There's no rule to say you can't nor is there an unwritten faux-pas but for me I prefer to keep the traditional colours at bay, revealing only just a hint of festivity on say my lips. The thing is there are more colours in the colour spectrum one can indulge in this time of year. And I find metallics tend to be the most fun. I love the idea of wearing something sparkly like these pants or this skirt. Glittery enough to remain merry whilst also being something that can be utilised year round.

THose pants are incredible! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I Agree, a little bit of sparkle or glitter works perfectly in December, but yo can still wear it year-round without feeling costume-y if you get what I mean! :) This would make an awesome Christmas outfit! :)

I also find glittering clothes the most festive and to me they also mean "marry". So I totally love your picks, they are all so stylish and luxurious! That Christmas lunch can be transformed into a Christmas dinner with those pieces as well.

For sure S xx
DeleteI do agree that green and red can be overly festive and overbearing most of the time so, for the past two Christmas dinners I've been invited to, I've avoided these two colours and went for black (of course) instead. Whatever the case, I still do love a bit of the festive colours for the holidays; just not all the time.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm not quite sure about those sequinned leggings just because anything sequinned will have me running the opposite direction, but I adore the comfortable yet dressed-up vibe of this outfit. Great picks, Sonia!

Hahaha in our family we tend to stick to black too. Or if colour is involved it's never green. xx

I love that you posted this. I go to Christmas brunch with my family every year, and usually I wear a dress, but Fedex lost a box with most of my dresses in it, so I don't have one to wear. I was wondering how I could pull of pants in a semi-formal, but still festive way. I'll have to keep this in mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel you on the red + green being overly festive. I had on a green shirt the other day and was about to put on red lipstick when I thought, "Zauni, you're doing way too much." smh.

I'm sort of with you on keeping to a certain colour group for festive celebrations, broken only by a bright lip of some kind. Though having said that, I have been known to cover myself in tartan occasionally come December ;) haha. I adore the shoes you've featured above Sonia!

Well I always believe tartan is a good idea, but I may be biased here considering how I don't actually associate the too anyway hehehe xx

Hahaha....I actually love the red and green combo and the only reason I don't wear it year round is because peeps always associate it with Christmas:D I hear yah about the metallics though...great picks, Sonia. I love that wrap cami!
ReplyDeleteYes, that cami would come in handy after all that food xx
DeleteI love that you went for a look with a touch of glam. I don't think I've ever worn green and red on Christmas. I'm usually more concerend about wearing something that will hide my food baby lol ;p
ReplyDeleteWell that cami would do an exceptional job at that xx
DeleteI'm loving the sequin pant! They're fabulous to say the least. Such a great find. The pant speaks volume and everything else is secondary. Love, love, love.
