"no amount of security is worth the suffering of a mediocre life chained to a routine that has killed your dreams.
// maya mendoza //
I've always felt there were two kinds of humans on planet Earth. Those afraid of what may lie outside the square mould of conformity. And those repelled by the notion of perpetually pausing inside such a deceptive facade of security.
I've also pondered if the enlightenment of the latter was something everyone eventually stumbled upon during their lifetime here. Be it in the first few years of ones life or at a much, much later stage.
Being someone repulsed by conformity, it's interesting to observe a loved one as they blossom with this inner change; morphing from a caterpillar to an even more resplendent butterfly. No longer content remaining in that overcrowded wave pool, they yearn for the real thing. Artificial anything no longer suffices. There's a sincere glint in their eye and an earnest bounce in their step as they pursue a more meaningful life; one bountiful in happiness and purpose.
It's glorious to finally have a comrade, someone who now understands the highs and lows that come with pursing dreams so far beyond the norm. There's also a faint personal pressure to guide accordingly and impart as much wisdom as seemingly possible. You're torn because you don't want to see them fumble and fall as you once did and yet you know that such lessons are essential for their own personal growth and journey.

ReplyDeleteGood point too, about needing to let people have their own journey. It's good to offer help and advice but in the end we need to let people live their lives.
Hope you're having a good start to the week :)

ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely and inspiring post, beautiful! Growing up, I've always been more comfortable staying within my comfort zone, but as I've gotten older, things changed tremendously and I've been open to taking more chances, many times having done that! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us and I hope you have the best week ahead!

I find it really hard to keep my (big) mouth shut when it comes to giving advice in areas when I've lived + learned; I just want to HELP the person not make my mistakes! And yet, the mistake-making is often the greatest lesson. :)

You are such a good writer! Making me feel all the feelings haha. I was never much for conformity. I don't particularly take well to change, but I've always known I wanted to see the world and do something truly great with my time on earth. Starting my own blog has made me see so much potential in myself. And now I don't ever want to work for anyone ever again. So done with the conformity!

What a wonderful quote! It is hard to watch someone you care for struggle but like you said, sometimes it's necessary for them to learn from it and grow from the experience.

I think one of the things I've enjoyed about blogging is seeing how others started and how they've grown over the years. It's a really awesome thing to see. Even with myself. I look back at earlier posts and I've changed a lot. I always like to see people move upward.

I guess we all or most of us at least get to that stage where conforming no longer cuts it. And the need to step outside the box becomes more urgent than ever. In doing us, we not only grow but also make mistakes along the way. I guess we learn from those and there is no better teacher than lessons learned. We share our lessons in hopes of bettering someone else's journey. And the cycle repeats.

While I'm not exactly repulsed by conformity, the idea of it is not something that strictly appeals to me either. If it's possible, I think I may fall in between the two types.

You're such a good writer!!! Even though I try to leave my comfort zone from time to time, I am still stick in my comfort zone most of the time! It won't really get me to the places I want, so I should try more to leave that zone to explore the possibilities!

What beautiful visual and verbal inspiration! May we all blossom and pursue meaningful lives full of purpose and happiness. It will be made all the better of course with a solid pair of shoes (those butterfly embellishes ones!)

I have never really been a conformist, traditionally speaking, however I am aware that there are some things in our lives that are beyond our control, things that shape us form our environments, and such, etc. I think since I've had to move so much in my childhood that actually helped me to adapt and create my own immediate path, escaping comfort zones, and leading me to have develop diverse and long-term friendships. Love your inspirational board. Wish you a wonderful weekend, lovely. x/Madison

Beautiful writing and a topic I think I'll always find fascinating. Funnily enough, I used to sit in the 'conformity camp' (haha) and then switched things up a few years ago and realised (as you've quoted) that ''no amount of security is worth the suffering of a mediocre life''. Inspiring post Sonia!

Such a great post. Routine was killing me and will kill me if I ever get to be in one. I was thinking just yesterday when I thought about the possibility of working on a job were I cannot create something. I thought about it and realized that I would much rather kill myself (yep) than actually not be able to create.

I'm someone who is happy staying in my comfort zone for most of my life until I met my husband. He pushes me to do more and be better, always supportive throughout and I discovered so many parts of me that I didn't knew exist. Sometime we just need a little shove towards the right direction....

Comfort and security s nice but doesn't bring much growth. We need challenges to change and sometimes a lil pain too. So as much as we want to protect ourselves and others, we also have to let go of our fears.
ReplyDeleteGreat words Sonia. Have a great weekend! :)

Absolutely loved that quote. And in a way I think most people stick to their routine because it's safe and the outcome is very well known. Killing off that routine will destroy that safety net however will give you the chance to become greater than one was ever to dream about

I'm definietly the kind of person who always enjoy staying within their comfort zone! I don't know why but I've always been this way, I usually don't like change, taking chances and going against the waves, that just scares me! I used to be more rebellious as a teen, but I think I've really mellowed with age, haha. Thanks for sharing this beautifully written post! xoxo
