I've never been the biggest cheerleader for oriental design, in fact I somewhat cringe at it most times. I'm not sure where this silly aversion stems from, probably because it simply looks horrible on me. Yep I have never been able to give this decadent and traditional inspired look any justice. Though I can not work said look I always admire editorials featuring it like this shoot that just screams Geisha secret agent. Tian's fierce yet determined sense of abandonment in her stance and stare are incredibly striking and accompanied by sartorial sumptuousness of Dries Van Norton, Thakoon and Prada, it gives this a completely new and modern perspective on the traditional Geisha beauty or I guess my interpretation of one.
Happy weekend lovers.

This is an amazing photoshoot! I agree - a lot of the time, asian/oriental designs can look somewhat tacky but this is a lovely modern and quirky interpretation.

Those snaps are pretty damn sexey :)! And I'm with you - I can't pull of the traditional looks, I think I'm gonna stick with the Coachella style, hehe ;). I saw some cool oriental pieces in Zara though, so I just might give it a try... :)

Every single one of these shots are ridiculously beautiful. I'm not a huge lover of Oriental designs on myself but I can definitely appreciate their beauty from afar :) xx

Wow. This is intoxicating. I understand how this would be a hard look to pull off, but this is a marvelous example of how to do it well. I'm actually doing a post on Sunday about a Chinese vintage dress that I bought and love.

Wow, this is stunning! I never used to like when fashion mags did 'oriental' it always looked really cheesy & tacky, but recently the catwalks have been so full of the more minimalist kind, like featured here & I think it just looks so grown up & beautiful. I NEED those claw rings in my life though! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree, that ring needs to get on me! xx
DeleteSuch an exquisite editorial and transfers the thought of oriental design into something more mainstream. That Thakoon dress is surreal!

Hi my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteLook I'm not mega fan of oriental fashion, but I think it gives to extract some things sometimes. For example, the second and the fifth look I loved it! I would use and even beautiful!
