On a side note, many thanks to Jessika Smith for her help in shooting some of these scenes. Unfortunately some countries have been blocked in viewing this and I do hope this video is purely muted and not completely inaccessible or imperceptible. I could have chosen different background music but this song "You were right" by Rufus is just too perfect. If no sound is playing, go and download the song (it's actually pretty amazing) and play it simultaneously with the video.
I feel as though I've majorly failed when it comes to blogging and documenting my recent sojourn to the USA. And when I say fail, I mean how absent and disordered my postings have been. In an ideal world I would have chronicled each foray as I went; keeping this blog and my social media consistently updated. Alas that was not the case, and now having returned home I find myself yearning to share every precise detail and yet completely uncertain on where to even begin. I mean, how does one even begin to tackle the copious imagery saturating ones iPhone photo album? Or to somehow find the specific wording to fully depict such a mesmerising journey? It's an arduous task at best and yet for some bizarre reason I chose to focus my attention on assembling a video instead. A task so much more grander than having to simply select a mere few images for editing. And yet this could not have been a more ideal way to introduce you all to my adventure (save for two previous entries here and here).
From Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Elmers Bottle Farm to Route 66, Disneyland to Malibu, Palm Springs to Salvation Mountain, Monument Valley to the Grand Canyon. This truly was an adventure like no other.
And it was one that I'd been dreaming of for many years now. Not so surprisingly was that it did not fail to hypnotise. It had me utterly transfixed with the sheer magnitude and wonder of nature. A coastline bordered by dazzling blue ocean while being encapsulated by majestically soaring mountain peaks. It was that very mountainscape that had me bewitched. From the adumbral peaks enslaved to the horizon to towering chimerical beasts along the highway; I was caught in it's spell, as it no doubt depicts in the video above.

Ugh, my country is blocked (why the heck?). I really wanted to see it, as the view from that first photo is just mesmerizing. Don't worry about not documenting every single step of yours, S. In the end of the day, the memories you have made are important!

I think you did a wonderful job with this video, Sonia...As someone said, it was more important for you to have fun rather than worry about sharing each moment in order of occurrence:)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done Route66 in 10 years. I will be doing it again! Disney, of course, is priceless! I think it's so cool that the Disney "guard" waved for the camera, lol...
I'm so glad you enjoyed you visit to the US...I hope you get a chance to visit again one day:) Thank you so much for sharing, Sonia...Well done!!!
Very true, though I found at night when I didn't have plans and stayed indoors I could have updated the blog. I actually wanted to but the wifi connection was not that great. And how exciting your doing Route 66 soon! I actually want to drive all the way along it, from Chicago to LA. One day. I can only imagine how breathtaking that drive will be, and the changing landscapes from one side of the country to the other. BTW that guard at Disney was such a happy mistake! I can't believe my luck in capturing that, I actually took photos with him too but they didn't turn out too well (image slightly blurry) xx
DeleteYou may not have to imagine, Sonia. There's a wonderful book by Michael Wallis titled Route 66 The Mother Road that has amazing pictures and information about the history and sites on Route 66. It takes you through each state. I used it for my trip many years ago. You may be able to find it online. P.S. Would you believe I also have a Route 66 cookbook!!!
DeleteIt's always amazing when you can realize a dream. Great job on the video and thank you for sharing some of your experiences with us. The most important thing is that you enjoyed the trip and everything you saw.
ReplyDeleteI can't see the video Sonia, I don't know why... but I can imagine how fantastic was this trip!!!

The Grand Canyon is high on my list of places I'd like to visit and now most of the places documented in this video are somewhere on my list too - what a fantastic trip! You've by no means 'failed' as a blogger - you've excelled by creating a travel video diary :)

Oh boy Gabrielle, something tells me the Grand Canyon would just blow your mind. I'm dying to go back again. We met two guys who actually camped out down there overnight (mind you it was snowing and -22 that night in Flagstaff were we stayed, a mere 45 minute drive away from the Canyon) and said it was the most extraordinary thing they've done. They also said it was warmer down there then what it was above. I'd love to spend a night, it would be the most magical experience. xx
Deletethe video was AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI definitely always feel like it's hard to strike a balance between the work I have to do (photos, documenting, posting, etc.) and actually enjoying the moment purely for the moment....I always feel like I hadn't documented or photographed enough but I know that no matter what, I had a great experience I could be thankful for! I loooove this vid, it makes me miss the west coast! Excellent song choice too! :)
ReplyDeleteCharacters & Carry-ons
Very true. And it's something that annoys me to no end, this thought that I must document everything which comes to the forefront of my mind rather than pausing and actually seeing what is before me with my own eyes. xx
DeleteI love this! The mountains are absolutely gorgeous. I would love to go back to Vegas and visit the Grand Canyon as well. Great video- makes me a tad jealous haha!

I think that is the only way to do it Idu. Live in the moment, document it later. And nature is really amazing, especially in America. I never really had an appreciation for it until I first visited and fell in love with New England's greenery. xx
