FOOD PORN THURSDAY // CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

Honestly, I have no idea how I've only just managed to discover the whole baking for one in a mug revolution, and I have to admit I've become quite fanatical over this craze. It's truly super genius and completely puts to shame that old saying "the best thing since sliced bread". Whenever you get a craving for a certain something decadent and naughty, you just place the ingredients into the confines of your favorite (microwavable) mug and nuke it for a few minutes; et voila! Cake for one.

Idiot proof really.

I know some people downplay these as simple student/college dorm room cuisine but in my humble opinion I think age knows no bounds with this clever little life hack. And there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of these neat little tricks over on the web, especially on Pinterest, that will surely tickle your fancy, no matter age nor palette since it's not just limited to the sweet stuff. There's a bunch of recipes for the savoury kind also. Oh and let's not forget the sheer convenience of it all ,which firmly outweighs all arguments against (if any at all).

Not convinced? Well just imagine a quiet Friday night in. You're in your beloved Monrow sweats, watching a rom-com movie and tucked away, snug as a bug beneath your lush Missoni weave throw when suddenly those blasted chocolate cravings strike! And it's during those occasions when there's not a crumb or flake of chocolate remaining under the roof that the persistent bugger leashes all hell on you. With no choice but to succumb you delve and scrummage through your pantry - even though it's a lost cause and soon start contemplating dashing on over to the shops in haste. But that requires you to abandon the comforts of your home and couch. Sigh, what do you do?

You know, for those 'incase of an emergency' situations or hell any day or time of the week really, I pass no judgements here. Then again, since I (apparently) sleep beneath rocks you're all probably well aware of the numerous perks of this humble mug fad and I'm not telling you anything new here. So tell me what's your experience been like with these?

 INGREDIENTS: 
3tbs almond meal
1½ tbs cocoa powder
2 tbs honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
Pinch of cinnamon

Place all ingredients into a microwavable mug and mix to thoroughly combine.
Microwave on high for around 1-2 minutes depending on the strength of your microwave.
Serve inside mug or pop it easily onto a plate with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Et voila.
