It's no secret that I've been battling with overly dry lips for some time now. No amount of balm has managed to repair or hydrate them in the slightest. Not even my faithful Burt's Bees. The same can be said for lip scrubs.

If you recall, Frank Body came onto the scene like a bat straight out of hell. Punchy tag lines and a long list of admiring cool kids praising their products. Their quirky prose and caffeine based products injected new life into the scrub sector and seemingly captured the hearts of many, myself included.
Their lip scrub has been my saving grace. From the first application I noticed immediate results and with continued weekly use I've bid adieu to that unsightly stale appearance. Truthfully my pucker hasn't felt this rejuvenated in months and dare I say years even. The blend of organic raw sugar and coffee granules is heavenly on the senses; both on the lips and through the nose. The distinct aroma of profound ground robusta rekindles lost memories and moments held somewhere deep in Western Europe.

I've been loving satin anything lately. And it's no surprise that this involves my beloved NARS. And I can earnestly say that the Audacious range contains the best satin lipsticks you'll encounter. And I'm aware you may think I'm blatantly bias here given my overall obsession with this beauty brand, but a quick search on the internets and you'll find nothing but raving reviews from people from all walks of life. Personally I've acquired around six different shades from both the matte and satin formulations. From classic reds like Annabella to the ultimate vamp Liv. When it comes to neutrals Raquel has been my one and only, despite being known to don Anita here and there. It's always a quick fling and I'm running back to my revered Raquel in no time.
Because of a few drug store bad eggs matte and satin lipsticks tend to have the incorrect fallacy that these types of lipstick have the vexatious tendency to dry out ones lips or be not-so-lasting. Honestly I've found the Audacious line to be continually consistent in terms of pigmentation and hydration. Have you tried a shade from this range yet? Did you draw the same conclusions as I did? Because I'm yet to encounter a shade that dries or burrows into those ghastly crevices on my lips. And in terms of wear, I've been pleasantly content with their staying power. Especially considering application, which in one swipe is all you need. Even when consuming food or drink, it doesn't become obvious nor blotchy but another lick of lipstick doesn't hurt either.
The shade Raquel is a satin finish and has a soft, peachy rose tint. Perfect for any complection really. I've worn this both when I've been deathly pale during the winter months to glowingly fake tanned during the warmer months. On my complexion I found that during my paler moments my skin tends to bring out the rose tones more and when I'm slathered in a chic shade of brown, the peachy orange hues are nicely prevalent. It's an ideal shade for both casual or dressier needs or work to play. The colour is subtle so it makes it perfect for when you don't want to leave the house bare lipped, but don't want to look overly done up. Au naturel. It's also exceptional paired with a sultry, rock 'n' roll smokey eye.
In regards to the packaging, I'd spend my money for this alone. A minimal matte black case with a fine but glossy wrap around logo on the base. It's as beautifully sleek as the contents it protects. There's also a magnetic closure that snaps both parts into their corresponding position. Aside from being quite entertaining, this is ideal for the usual wear and tear of life and travel because you need not fear silly accidental wastage disasters when the lids of lipsticks become dislodged. Cost wise they tend to be more on the pricey side but it's well worth it in my opinion. Like they say, you get what you pay for and this line my friends, is well worth parting your cash with because it's generously exceptional for the price.

Technically this is not a loves lately but more of an eternal love. And one, regardless, that I felt compelled to address. When it comes to parfum, I am overly particular with the kind of scents I dust upon my skin. As a friend of mine likes to word it, I love smelling like a fruit salad. I've never been certain where this intense preference for airy, slender citrus aromas stems from. My mother is known for her appreciation of substantial concupiscent fragrances. Those powerful, superimposing musks amalgamating with English garden roses. The kind you'd imagine powerful business women of New York in the early 90's to don. In fact, every time I detect a hint of those classic essences, my mind always seems to envision long grey trench coats with wisps of Dior Poison radiating discreetly from beneath, with sensible blocked heels to carry it forward and oversized clip-on earrings jutting out from ears hidden beneath perfectly styled pixie crops to mask it source, unsuccessfully.
Over the years I've had many favorites. From Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue to Ralph Lauren Blue and even SJP's Lovely. And while I still hold a special place in my heart for Light Blue, Chloe's signature scent has been my own for many years now. It's light, fresh and a perfect balance of citrus and florals. And all without being obnoxiously overwhelming; especially on the floral side. Which is something I utterly detest in a parfum. I don't know about you but for me notes of spiciness and freshly blooming spring roses with commanding perfumes are too potent for my senses and thus firmly disliked.
And while I've dabbled with other fragrances like Eternity and Oh Lola!, I always come back to Chloe. Not just for it's deliciously ethereal sheerness but for the delightfully decadent packaging and charming petite bottle that exudes sensuous femininity; without being seemingly palpable. It reminds me of the French and their way with style. Covetable, transcendent and always unparalleled and honorable to the being enrobed within. Much like the brand itself.

I have this "thing" with beauty products that I am going to share with you. I don't like using "better" brand named products for mundane everyday use. The kind you find yourself reaching for daily, like foundation or lipsticks. I don't know where this annoying trait stems from and I feel it strengthen more and more as I age. I just really despise how quickly a $70 bottle of foundation empties when I find myself resorting to its use, twenty-four seven for banal tasks like going to work or quick ventures to the supermarket.
And because of this, they always end up depleted at the most inappropriate of times.
Now, don't take this as me being a brand snob because I'm not. Well, not really. I have my favorites and I stick to them like glue. I'm annoyingly loyal and a creature of habit like that. I don't rush out to try new and different products weekly or even monthly because I have curiously sensitive skin and the majority of product out there just doesn't work for me. In fact the majority of of high street brands cause nothing but dehydrated havoc on my skin.
Surprisingly Garnier has been good to me over the years. I've always found something that works well for my skin. Like their (long discontinued) "Fresh" range which saw me through my teenage years until the onset of my twenties when I discovered NARS. So when my interest spiked over the wave of BB creams saturating the market, I decided to turn to Garnier once again, which thankfully turned out to be a most wise investment.
If you're still unaware what exactly a BB cream entails, it's a simple tinted moisturiser. It adds (depending on your hand) a light sheen and glow to your skin whilst also moisturising. It's like a foundation sans the irritable dryness. There are even some which contain added SPF sun protection. And I prefer those above all else because the sun is not our skins friend, no matter how gorgeous that tan is on you, the sun is its worst enemy. For me I've been pleasantly content with this BB cream. It's wonderful on my skin; seemingly gliding effortlessly without unnecessary palaver. A lightweight formula that doesn't feel heavy or encumbering. Which would no doubt make it incredibly ideal for the dreaded sultry red summer that has been predicted for us Aussies.

I'll never forget the moment I welcomed this blush to my collection. It took nearly ten days to be delivered to my door from somewhere in sunny California. Back then that was my preferred route to acquiring cosmetics; online and overseas (hello seriously generous price differences). It was during a time of fervently oversized 'it handbags' and days were celebrities involuntarily became street style mavens. Orgasm was bigger than big. While the Balenciaga Motorcycle bag was one of the most coveted handbags ten years ago, NARS Orgasm was the 'it' beauty product to possess. Everyone was raving about this shade. You truly couldn't go past a magazine article without seeing it featured it either.
This was the tone du jour; the hue of choice.
It was the product that gave Carrie Bradshaw those infamous luminescent pink cheeks we seemingly coveted.
Truthfully, I purchased this item because I was and continue to be a complete NARS junkie. I have to have all the things pertaining to NARS and because magazines told me I needed this. However, back then I didn't utilise it as much as the other blushes in my collection. I tried it but didn't like it on my pale complexion. I was all about faking being tanned (still kind of am, translucent is not a great look on me), so I preferred to stick to beloved tints like Zen and Lovejoy. Tints I still use to this day mind you. Orgasm didn't exactly give me that tanned contoured look those other shades were giving me nor did it complement my (horrendously) orange glow. So it simply ended up at the back of my beauty draw, only to be rediscovered many moons later.
I don't know what compelled me to swipe it on one morning, but damn am I glad I did.
