Lovers, I am ashamed to admit this but I've somehow let Mothers Day completely slip my mind. In my defence, how is it even May? And because of this short notice I find I'm stuck for ideas. What am I going to get my mum? Sleepwear? Homewares? Or something sartorial even? I'm a girl who prefers to put a lot of thought into another's gift. Most times it goes unnoticed but not with my mum. She values the little things and is always super grateful for any effort. Be it uber outrageous or something petite. I am also a person who madly attempts to outdo themselves every year. Last year I spent the entire day prior creating a baking spread of magnificence to lay out on her dining table early Sunday morning. I have no idea how I'll top that one. Maybe a repeat? Though, I'd rather not spend another full day baking.
So what have you brought or are thinking of purchasing for your mum? After compiling this edit I'm having a most difficult time deciding what exactly to acquire. All of these peerless finds are singing her name and as much as I'd love to lavish my mum with all this and more, financially my wallet is slapping me about with its crude reality checks. I feel like when it comes to an occasion of this nature, frames are always a good idea; purely for the sentimental value. A chic decorative square with a dear photo of the two of you within it's glass confines will continually bring a smile to her dial. It's the gift that keeps on giving. And of course splurging on some classically decadent scents always goes down a treat because who doesn't find themselves seduced by their opulent designs? Or being encased in those enticingly pampering floral notes? Then there's coffee mugs. When I was younger I always viewed small and practical gifts like those as lame and unimaginative. These days nothing could excite me more (oh the joys of coming of age). Except for Nicholas Kirkwood. Because shoes.
On a side note can I just say how thankful I am to everyone of you for leaving such a splendid array of eloquently expressive remarks on my previous posts (read it them here and here)! I am blown away by the amount of conversation those posts seemingly generated. Never in a million years did I imagine it to garner such a generous amount of attention and discussion. I have adored reading all your opinions, whether you agreed or disagreed or said nothing at all. You've reminded me how much I treasure blogging and the exclusive perks of being a blogger. Like having access to such a wonderful support system and the many friendships formed through this medium.

Bloggers rock indeed!
ReplyDeleteSo many of these items you listed are great gift ideas! I like that zoe tote, that would be so cute in a bright colour! :) I agree photos and photo frames are always great gifts too :)
Hope you manege to do something suitably wonderful for mother's day :) We are going with the usual flowers, and then an experience (lunch.dinner) on top. Starting to realise now we have a baby that we just have too much stuff, so experiences are our gift of choice now haha.

My mum is so complicated when it comes to presents because she neither uses makeup, nor much perfume, nor does she wear jewellery. She also just uses one single bag and only lights candles to get rid of them xD Maybe I'll get her some organic beauty products though :)

Or flowers. Or a frame with you both. I feel like she'd appreciate that. I think. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with xx

This idea are magnificent to give to Moms, My sibling and I when we want to give something big like 2 years ago a trip to Paris we all incorporate our money to make sure she has a blast and stay in the best place, Last year I got her a gift card to Red Door a spa place where you get pamper head to toes, This year another big trip with the help of my sibling. She loves traveling and pampering also when we cook she loves it not that she wants or expect these big gift but we feel she deserve it. Great post Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWow your mum is one lucky lady. A trip to Paris! That would have been the greatest gift ever. I wonder where you'll send her this year? I think all mums deserve complete royal treatment. xx
DeleteIn Italy is the next Monday and I still havent bought anything yet, shame on me! I think she could love the necklace and the bag, but my wallet wouldnt be happier either!:P Happy Sunday Sonia, hugs! xo
ReplyDeleteOver here Lilli it's this Sunday! I'm actually now thinking of getting her a cardigan I saw her eyeing over today. She could have been hinting me too hahaha! xx

I absolutely love them.. especially the shoes, very classy for sophisticated women :) And of course, anyone would be happy to receive a Chanel perfume :) It's actually very easy to get my mom a gift for any occasion because she just choose what she likes, it's so much easier that way and she actually prefers it that way. Awww... I like how you love to put in effort in the little details to make a gift special. I think most people would appreciate it. I'm glad to hear that your mum does too. My mum doesn't. I wished she would be more simple and appreciate these little things. She usually asks for the most practical stuff like money and conveniently say we didn't give her any gift every single year. She also asks for branded bags. I wished she could be like most mothers. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI like what you have put together. I think I would love anything my daughter gives me though my heart melts at the candles. I'm a sucker for fragrance.

DeleteI'm always torn whenever Mother's Day arrives...well, my relationship with my mum is very difficult. It's a lot of love/hate and I envy anyone who has amazing relationship with their mum. My mum is exactly like Jo's mum, I'm not sure if it's an Asian thing but mine is always asking for money and branded goods. It's tough and whenever I tell her I can't afford it then I'm labelled as an ungrateful child. In short, I even had to attend therapy because I had almost no self esteem, always thinking I'm useless and that I have no place in this world. It's tough but Im grateful that I no longer feel like that. The therapy helped and my husband played a huge role in making me better. I'm so blessed that my mum in law is amazing to me and through her, I finally understand what a mother's love is. I think I'll be sending money as always to my mum and for my MIL, I'll be making a special dinner and maybe a small gift.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh wow, I should shut up already, so sorry for the 'woe is me' story but every time Mother's Day approach, it'll bring back some painful memories. :-/
Shireen | Reflection of Sanity
OMG, Shireen! High 5 man! High 5! I also do have love-hate relationship with her and honestly, things at home hasn't been very good lately with almost everyone in the family feeling totally exasperated. She could be nice and cute and sweet at times but mostly, it would be more a lot more negative than positive and yup, I really envy anyone who has amazing relationship with their mum.

Sonia, you're at Melbourne right? We are closer in timing than I to the rest of the world too. We are just 2 hours apart! But it's so strange I get to see my European and US friends posting on Instagram at the same time when I'm awake. Totally strange. I think that shows I'm not getting enough sleep.
ReplyDeleteYeah, more more more photos of yourself and your hair in future perhaps since we've been talking about it the last time.
Lots of my teacher friends have got really weird names on FB too though I know some accept their students' friend request. It's great that your friend managed to connect with her ex students whom I suppose are working adults or at least old enough to see the change in them and how far they have come. I have my primary school form teacher and Chinese teacher on my FB. My pri sch frenz are a close bunch and it started with one of them adding both teachers and suggesting friends to them so now most of us are acquainted. I can't say the same for my secondary school teachers.

Aren't moms amazing. Every little thing counts with them. I'm just like you, still undecided and it is the morning of. Mugs are always great and so are frames and fragrances.
